What is Latisse®?
Latisse® is the first and only prescription eyelash growth product indicated in Canada to grow eyelashes longer, thicker and darker.
Latisse® users typically start to see longer lashes in about eight weeks, with full growth at 16 weeks. To maintain results, continued use of Latisse® is needed. Once treatment is discontinued, over a period of several weeks to months (average eyelash hair cycle), eyelash prominence will return to pre-treatment levels.
Hair follicles have three phases in their life cycle: anagen, catagen, and telogen. The anagen phase is the growth phase of a hair follicle and typically lasts 30-45 days. The active ingredient in Latisse® extends the anagen phase of lash hair follicles, causing them to grown longer, darker and thicker. Latisse® is applied once-daily to the base of the upper eyelid margin with a single-use-per-eye disposable applicator brush.
Over a course of 32 clinical trials spanning 13 years and involving over 5,700 patients less than 4% of participants noted mild side effects. With proven results and well-documented clinical trials, the best way to evaluate Latisse® eyelash enhancement is to try it for yourself.
None of the clinic trials found any cases where Latisse® had changed a persons eye colour. However clinical studies found that a small percentage of individuals developed iris pigmentation when using a similar drug LUMIGAN® when dropped directly into the eye for the treatment of glaucoma. Therefore it is important to follow the doctors recommended steps in brushing Latisse® into the lashes.
Latisse® is the first and only prescription eyelash growth product indicated in Canada for eyelash hypotrichosis (hair loss). The active ingredient in Latisse® actually extends the growth phase of hair follicles causing them to grow longer, thicker, and darker. It is the only product that actively stimulates growth. Over-the-counter products are conditioning products. They do not require the same drug approval in Canada because there is no active ingredient. Just like when an individual uses conditioner in their hair, they will have healthier hair; likewise this will improve the health of one’s eyelashes, giving a small benefit.
